Mike’s Story
From a 400-acre farm to the Carolina Piedmont
Some contractors learn land management from a textbook. Mike Vanstrom learned it from the seat of a tractor.
Growing up on a 400-acre farm in southern Minnesota, Mike was running heavy equipment before most kids had their driver’s license. He spent his early years operating tractors, skid steers, and excavators, learning the rhythm of the land and the value of hard work.
That foundation carried him into a career in construction: framing, roofing, siding, excavation, and property development. He’s built homes, graded lots, installed driveways, and solved drainage problems. But his real passion has always been the land itself.
The Alaska Connection
When Mike isn’t transforming properties in the Carolinas, he’s operating Alaska Elite Outfitters, managing remote property improvements in some of the harshest environments in North America. That experience taught him something invaluable: when you’re miles from the nearest supply store, you learn to be resourceful, self-sufficient, and prepared for anything.
He’s personally developed hundreds of acres, including a 350-acre property near the Canadian border that he transformed into a fully functional hunting and recreation destination, complete with trails, food plots, access roads, cabins, and wildlife habitat. He didn’t just design it. He built it with his own hands.
